Juicey streets (Duluth)

What they’re not telling you about beet juice,Or any leftover wort or grains from the alcohol industry is this. They’er still going to use salt. There’re
going to use just as much salt as they always have. They may even use more salt with the introduction of beat juice.

This is how it works.
The sugar in the solution lowers the freezing point of the ice, which means when sugar is added IE beet juice , salt will melt ice at a cooler temperature than its typical 15°F limit. Officials promise the beet juice product, which is more brown than red, won't stain.

Translation when salt starts to become less effective at 15°F the introduction of beat juice will allow it to melt ice off the road at lower temperatures then just salt alone.

They will still be using salt which will be getting into the streams and lakes. They will still be using salt and other corrosive chlorides that are going to rust out our cars and infrastructure.

Bottom line folks, sugar does not melt ice otherwise we would’ve been dumping sugar on the roads and not salt.

If you want to spend the time and look this information you can find on the subject at National Geographic

PS
The rising cost of salt has nothing to do with past Winters or global warming
FYI
a salt mine flooded with water .
They are not digging a new salt mine.
This has lead to importing more salt at a added cost.
