I've recently retired and am considering moving to Duluth. I've always found it to be a wonderful town that has a great deal to offer, including some really interesting and kind people. No city is perfect and I'd suggest that if you don't like what's going on, you get involved. Talk to your city council representative, attend a few meetings, get on some advisory boards that have influence and finally participate in the budget process. Duluth certainly has challenges, not the lease of which is the loss of the casino revenue but look at what you've got:
1) You're on the shore of the most beautiful freshwater lake in the world and all it has to offer
2) You have access to some of the best hockey in the country
3) You are so close to an abundance of nature
3) You have a wonderful university with an exceptional museum
4) You have some wonderful housing stock
5) You have a number of nationally acclaimed artists that call Duluth home
6) Some of the nicest people I've ever met live in Duluth
7) You get to have winter longer than most in this country.
8) You have a great public transport system
I could go on but you get the idea. I suspect that if you don't like Duluth, you either haven't traveled much or are simply too lazy to participate in he local government process and work for the changes you desire. See you in a few months '-)
