Key Responsibilities
• Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance on heavy equipment, including hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and magnetic systems.
• Welding & Fabrication: Carry out welding, cutting, torching, and fabrication tasks to repair structural damage to machinery, buckets, and containers.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic malfunctions, often working under pressure to minimize production downtime.
• Preventive Maintenance (PM): Adhere to scheduled maintenance, such as changing oil, lubricants, filters, and checking wear parts to prevent breakdowns.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to OSHA and company safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, proper use of PPE, and maintaining a clean work environment.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and inspections.
• Parts Management: Monitor inventory, order necessary parts, and coordinate with vendors to ensure timely repairs.
Qualifications & Skills
• Experience: 2+ years of experience as an industrial maintenance technician, heavy equipment mechanic, or diesel mechanic, preferably in a recycling, construction, or mining environment.
• Technical Skills: Proven expertise in hydraulics, electrical systems, and diesel engine repair.
• Welding Proficiency: Strong skills in MIG, TIG, or Stick welding, as well as torch cutting.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to lift over 50–75 lbs, climb on equipment, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.
• Adaptability: Ability to work in varied, often harsh, weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
• Communication: Good communication skills to liaise with operators, managers, and external suppliers.
Required flexibility to work overtime and some Saturdays.
Core Responsibilities

Mobile Equipment: Forklifts (Toyota, Komatsu), skid loaders (Caterpillar), and excavators or material handlers (Sennebogen, Liebherr).
System Diagnostics: Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical system issues to determine the root cause of equipment failures.
Facility Upkeep: Maintain building systems, including minor plumbing, electrical wiring, and HVAC. Address safety hazards like broken gates or structural damage.
Record Keeping: Document all maintenance activities, parts used, and labor hours. Manage spare parts inventories and order supplies as needed.
Safety Compliance: Enforce OSHA and company safety standards, including the proper management of hazardous materials like solvents, flammables, and Freon.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Mechanical Aptitude: Extensive experience with hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and heavy equipment operation.
Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and move heavy objects (typically 50-65+ lbs), climb ladders, and work in various outdoor conditions (extreme heat/cold).
Certifications: Requires a high school diploma or GED.
Environment: Work is performed in a high-noise environment with exposure to dust, fumes, grease, and moving machinery parts.
