BRAVE AND THE BOLD # 111, Feb.-Mar. 1974! "Death Has the Last Laugh!" by Bob Haney & Jim Aparo sees an entire family murdered with the Joker's modus operandi & Batman vows that he'll make him pay! He’s tracked to the Sultan health spa, where the Joker is trying to kill a crook named Slade, who winds up shooting Batman! Joker's clues lead Batman to Lock 39, an abandoned river lock system. Batman arrives, only to learn that he's been duped: Slade and the Joker have been working together in a complicated plot to try and kill him! The Joker opens river locks in the hope of drowning Batman, but he manages to get free, and easily knocks out Slade. The Joker, realizing that his plan is foiled, tries to escape by stealing the Batmobile, but he is thwarted by its security measures and is easily captured by Batman!
The FLASH # 218, Oct.-Nov. 1972! “The Flash of 1000 Faces!” by Cary Bates, Irv Novick & Frank McLaughlin has The Pied Piper finds a way of implanting mental blocks in the Flash's brain by his music in Central City! Next, Green Lantern & Green Arrow: "Green Arrow Is Dead!" by Dennis O'Neil, Neal Adams & Dick Giordano shows a bomb has exploded in Oliver Queen's tenement, set by thugs as revenge for his accidental killing of their comrade! Green Lantern attempts to keep the building standing until the fire department arrives! Black Canary arrives, wondering if he has seen Oliver, and they begin to look for him, but he in the Arrowplane, flying over the mountains. Struggling with his emotions, he decides to stage the plane's crash, thus killing the last remaining elements of the Green Arrow! With that done, he heads to a nearby Ashram and asks for help to forgive himself. Black Canary uncovers a cult led by the sister of a man named Joshua who, months ago (Green Lantern #78) had hypnotized the Canary into joining a racist lynch-mob. She is knocked out from behind, but when they try to drop her from the top of a roof, Green Lantern arrives just in time to save her!
