I converted it to a '81 police 302/5.0L w/ a Ford 3 speed manual back in 2001. It's got a Hurst Indy short throw 3 speed shifter on the floor. With the conversion I replaced the following in 2001: new radiator for a '79 w/ a 302, upper and lower radiator hoses, reman starter for a 302 w/ manual trans, new water pump and bypass hose, had a new driveshaft made by Driveline Specialists, reman power steering pump and reman power steering gear. The 302 has about 100K on it now. It got a new bottom end, in 2001: main and rod bearings, pan gasket, and front and rear main seals, and a Melling hi voume oil pump. I ended up spooling the rear end since I could NOT get traction with this truck in the rain and snow...and sometimes even dry pavement. It's got a 9" Ford axle under it, the big bearing version w/ 31 spline axles. I installed a Scogin Racing equipment 31 spline mini-spool in the 3rd member, with 3.50 ratio gears. Before I owned it, in 1998 the front calipers, master cyl, all 3 rubber brake hoses, and wheel cylinders were replaced as well.

    Recent new parts include: new windshield installed by SGI, new rear brakes, new rear axle bearings and seals, fresh gear oil in the transmission and rear axle, new V belts, carb gaskets, true dual exhaust, all 4 shocks, reman alternator, Silverstar headlights, ALL new tie rods ends, new rear brake line from the prop valve to the rear of the truck, new copper line for the oil pressure gauge, new clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate, used coolant recovery tank, new plugs, and two new tires on the front (I'm running 31x10.50-15's on it). I did replace the pads once, rotors were fine, and re-packed the bearings years ago. I checked them recently and they still have plenty of miles left in them. Yes the parking brake works great too. I also have a good spare ignition box from my old '81 F150 set up under the hood, ready to be plugged in incase the first one goes out (hasn't yet since i've owned it). It does have an Autometer tach, and mechanical oil pressure and temp gauges.

    The bad: it's getting rusty. The box is rusty, the cab is rusty, it has spent 30 years up here. It needs a good set of rear leaf springs (cracked leaves on both sides), an oil dipstick, it leaks oil, and the radius arm bushings are starting to go bad.

    The good: it's only left me on the side of the road once in 10 years, never been in an accident in it, custom rattle can flame job on the hood, yes it hauls ass.

    means I rarely have to use the 4wd.The 4 wheel works great.This is heavy duty truck with 80# radial tires for hauling.
    The reciever is built in to the lift gate.Every thing works on it.This truck could be the ultimate plow truck.
    It does have some rust,mostly on the box.It looks good but is no show piece.I will get a pic online this weekend if
    it isn"t sold by then.It only has 137,000 miles so it should be good for many years to come.
    I am buying a chevy astro or gmc mini van to commute to the cities for a new job so would consider one
    of these on trade.Otherwise pretty firm on the $2500. for now.
